Finding the Right Bible for Your Faith Journey
Choosing a Bible can feel surprisingly overwhelming. With so many translations, formats, covers, and features available, it's easy to wonder where to start.
The good news? There isn't one "perfect" Bible. The best Bible is often the one that helps you spend more time in God's Word.
Whether you're looking for a Bible to help you study more deeply, a journaling Bible to record what God is teaching you, or a meaningful gift for someone you love, we're here to help you find a Bible you'll treasure for years to come.
Study Bibles: For Going Deeper
If you've ever found yourself wondering, What does this passage mean? or What's happening in the historical context here?, a study Bible can be an incredible companion.
Study Bibles include helpful resources alongside the biblical text, such as:
- Study notes and commentary
- Cross-references to related passages
- Maps, charts, and timelines
- Articles on biblical themes and theology
- Concordances and indexes
They're a wonderful choice for personal study, Bible study groups, ministry leaders, or anyone who wants to understand Scripture more deeply.
Popular options include the NIV Study Bible, ESV Study Bible, CSB Study Bible, and many translation-specific study editions.
Journaling Bibles: For Reflection and Creativity
For many people, some of the most treasured Bibles are the ones filled with prayers, notes, highlights, and reminders of God's faithfulness.
Journaling Bibles are designed with wide margins that provide space to write reflections, record prayers, take sermon notes, or create artwork inspired by Scripture.
Features often include:
- Wide margins for note-taking
- Durable pages designed for writing
- Lay-flat binding
- Minimal distractions around the text
- Journaling Bibles are especially loved by creative readers, teenagers, and anyone who enjoys engaging personally with God's Word.
Years from now, these notes often become a beautiful record of God's faithfulness through different seasons of life.
Wide-Margin Bibles: Room to Grow
If you love taking notes but don't need a full journaling Bible, a wide-margin Bible may be the perfect middle ground.
These Bibles provide extra space for observations, sermon notes, prayers, and study insights while maintaining a more traditional Bible layout.
They're particularly popular with pastors, Bible study leaders, and serious students of Scripture.
Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Bible
Which translation is right for you?
One of the most common questions we hear is, "Which Bible translation should I choose?"
The answer depends on your reading preferences, study goals, church background, and where you're at in your faith journey. The wonderful thing is that there are several trustworthy translations available, each helping readers engage with God's Word in different ways.

How will you use it?
Think about your primary purpose:
- Daily devotions
- In-depth study
- Church and Bible study groups
- Sermon preparation
- Journaling and creative reflection
- Family Bible reading
Different features suit different seasons and needs.
What size will work best?
One of the biggest surprises for people shopping for a Bible is the font size.
Years ago, many Bibles were printed with larger text as standard. Today, publishers often fit more content into a Bible—whether that's study notes, cross-references, maps, or simply creating a more portable size. As a result, many standard Bibles use an 8-point font, which can feel surprisingly small.
For many readers, a Large Print Bible is actually closer to what they expect a standard reading experience to be. Most large print editions use a font around 11–12 point, making them much more comfortable for everyday reading.
If you struggle with small print, you may want to consider:
- Large Print Bibles (typically 11–12 point font)
- Giant Print Bibles for even easier reading
- Super Giant Print Bibles for maximum readability
- Comfort Print® editions, designed to reduce eye strain and improve the reading experience
- Dyslexia-friendly Bibles, specially designed to support readers with dyslexia
If you're unsure, we always recommend checking the font size before purchasing. A Bible that feels comfortable to read is a Bible you're more likely to reach for every day.
Is this a gift or a personal Bible?
Some people are looking for a practical study tool. Others are searching for a keepsake Bible that will be treasured for decades and perhaps even passed down to the next generation.
Both are wonderful reasons to invest in God's Word.
